Three ways to ride the Loop
- Easy Rider (sit behind a local driver). You sit behind an experienced local driver. No licence or riding experience needed. This is the option most of our guests choose, and the only option on the 2-day Loop.
- Ride by yourself (licence required). Bring your International Driving Permit (1968 convention, category A/A1) together with your national licence. Police on the Loop check both. Our standard bikes are new semi-automatic 110-125cc models; bigger manual bikes and automatic scooters are available on request, subject to availability.
- Seat behind a friend. Share one bike with a friend who books the self-riding option. You only pay the seat-behind price.
Every group has a different guide, so every Loop is a little different. That is the point.
Included in every Loop
- Pick-up included from Hanoi, Sapa, Ninh Binh, Cat Ba and Ha Long (airports included)

Day 1: Ha Giang - Dong Van (about 150 km)
From the river valley to the rock plateau.
- 8:00 AM: Briefing and gear up
- Bac Sum Pass
- Quan Ba Heaven Gate
- Can Ty Pass
- Lung Tam hemp village
- Lunch: Yen Minh town
- Rice terraces
- Tham Ma Pass
- 09 Circle Pass
- 5:00 PM: H'mong homestay in Dong Van
Day one climbs fast. After breakfast and a short safety briefing we leave Ha Giang city, and within an hour you are standing at Heaven Gate looking down on the twin mountains of Quan Ba. The road then winds through Can Ty and the hemp-weaving village of Lung Tam before lunch in Yen Minh. In the afternoon the landscape turns to grey rock: terraces, the famous switchbacks of Tham Ma Pass and the 09 Circle Pass bring you into Dong Van, where a H'mong family cooks dinner and you sleep in their home.
Day 2: Dong Van - Ha Giang (about 160 km)
Ma Pi Leng and the road back.
- 8:00 AM: Breakfast in Dong Van
- Ma Pi Leng Pass
- The M slope
- Nho Que River
- Meo Vac town
- Lunch: Mau Due
- Sa Li Pass
- Twin Fairy Mountains
- Rice terraces
- 5:00 PM: Back in Ha Giang city
The second morning is the reason people come to Ha Giang. Ma Pi Leng Pass hangs above the emerald Nho Que River for 20 kilometres, and we stop wherever the view is best, including the M-shaped slope that shows up in every photo of the Loop. After Meo Vac and lunch in Mau Due we take the quieter southern road over Sa Li Pass, past the Twin Fairy Mountains and terraced valleys, and roll back into Ha Giang city in the late afternoon, in time for the night bus.

We ride it slowly and stop often. Dinner and the night are with a H'mong family in Dong Van.
